look up

Walk outside and look up. It’s always going to be there. Looming over you menacingly or going on endlessly, making you ponder the possibilities of the galaxy. It is constantly changing. It is bright blue letting every ray of sun shine down on every corner. It is dotted with clouds, occasionally blocking off the warmth and casting odd shadows around the ground. It is grey, making you wonder what happened to happiness, making you wonder what happened to your life, what ruined everything for you. It goes black in the late hours of the morning, letting the stars masked by the blue day emerge and show their beauty. It disappears at times, replaced by the monstrous clouds, by the blankets of fog, by layers of smoke, by swirling sand. In the early hours when the rooster crows, it is a masterpiece of color folding in on itself and slowly shifting and changing. Then again, it gives us a brief look at another work of art just before it turns purple and before we fade into our dreams. It has an ever shifting personality, different for each of us wherever we may be on this earth that it envelops. It means so many things. It can be a comfort. It can be formidable, bringing storms of hail or snow. But most importantly it can be a source of wonder. Of wonder of who we are, why we are here, what the endless stretches of the universe contain, what infinite means. The sky.
