You want to do what? Podcast? What for?

July in Sydney is cold. Well, cold from the southern hemisphere perspective. It hits usually 8 or 9 degrees (F) and I hate it. My bum is cold all winter! It was mid July and the school holidays just started. I took my son to a day of soccer (football) training with Western Sydney Wanderers. While sitting on the cold bench watching children as young as seven years old kicking the ball, I needed my coffee. So I wandered around the football field and found myself a coffee shop. The line was long and I was getting bored. It was 10am and I haven’t done any mentally stimulating work yet. I get nervous when this happens! So I checked my work emails (yes I am on call 24/7 to my clients!) and there I saw an email from the rock star of business and personal transformation Brian Rose with headline that read “How to broadcast yourself”.

I first heard about podcasting from a well connected and known business woman who used to run her business network. She said she used podcasting to attract new business. So the moment I saw Brian’s email I felt I needed to click in. While waiting for my cappuccino, I listened to 1/2 hour presentation on what podcasting is and can do to your business.

My next 2 hours of watching over the soccer field were invested in knowing more about podcasting and researching Aussie podcasters especially in the business space. By the time the soccer training ended and my son was ready to go for lunch and movie with mummy, I made up my mind. I was going to sign up for Brian’s podcast training. And the rest as they say is history!

History was made this winter. Eight weeks later and we are nearing the end of September and today the temperature is 30 degrees and we are going to the beach. The sun is hot, the trees and flowers are in full bloom and I have a real podcast — Money Intelligence for the Greater Good. I have already published eight episodes and booked in successful and some well known entrepreneurs and award winning film producers. Everyone I email asking to come on my podcast says “YES”. I have not gotten a “NO” yet from anyone. Even if I do I have people lined up for 12 episodes to publish in the next two months.

I had nothing but encouragement from people and many said “this podcast is what we need to talk about balancing business, life and money matters”. The haters have not come out yet. But Brian told me how to deal with them! In fact Brian and his coaches helped me kick off this podcast and without the London Real Broadcast Yourself team, I would not be here sharing about it. I lost count of the number of times I resisted to do my tasks; I forgot the sleepless nights and waking up at 4am to be on the coaching calls; I forgot feeling “embarrassed” after I emailed to my clients and database that “I launched a podcast”.

I have been running my accounting and financial services practice for the past 25 years and many of my clients are high profile business women. I didn’t know how they were going to think about this podcast. The week we were supposed to launch I resisted so badly, felt sick in my stomach, imagined people calling me saying “you want to do what? podcast? what for? you wanna be famous? who do you think you are?”. I distracted myself watching movies on the weekend that I am supposed to do the launch!
