Stasis Interrogation Essay

Le Trefle came out with a commercial called “emma”. This commercial shows the conversary between the old school paper way of things and the new generation of using technology. It argues that technology can be great but it can not be used for everything. This is a topic that is very active in our world today. I want to take this time and grab hold of this controversial topic and look at how this commercial could have been more complete and fulfilled its argument better. I want to take a closer look of the argument trying to be made in this commercial. I will do this by discussing the conjectural, definitional, qualitative, and translative ideas of this argument. These ideas will help me take this argument piece by piece and look at some of the things that could have been better and maybe some of the holes within the controversial argument.

Looking at this commercial at a conjectural way there are ways it could have been better. At the end of this commercial it says “paper has a great future”. This is indicating that even though technology can replace paper in many ways and forms there is still a future for paper. Even though I see where they are coming from with this idea, I am not convinced that the proposal is completely true. We can already see many ways that technology had replaced paper. Such as calendars, notes and notepads, coloring books, online books, ect. Like this commercial shows, things such as toilet paper can not be used with technology, but I am more convinced that technology will come out with a way to use toilet paper before toilet paper stays around for ever in the future.

In a definitional way I think this article could have improved as well. The commercial defines how technology can replace paper but what does that mean for the world? What is the definition of technology instead of the old school paper way of things. We see examples of what the commercial is trying to portray, but what does it mean? What does it mean for us to have a tablet or phone instead of a piece of paper? What if we had no more paper and everything was technology? I think that is something that can be defined because that is the way the world is going. I think this will be something that might actually happen in the near future. What does it mean for us that we can use a calendar on our technology rather than a real calendar. What does it mean to be able to write a paper on our phone rather than with pen and paper?

In a qualitative way I think this commercial was pretty well done but there are a few things that could have been better. This commercial really showed the meaningness and purpose of toilet paper and how that is something that is necessary in paper form, not like the other things such as notes, writing paper, books, and calendars. I think the quality of the commercial could have been far better. Not that the idea was a bad one, but honestly the quality of the idea of toilet paper could have been better. I think they could have gotten the same point across in a lot more qualitative way and shown more professional aspect of their argument. The argument is a great one and one that is a world wide argument but it could have been shown in a more serious manner. I do get that the commercial was trying to funny which it did accomplish, but with that seriousness of a topic it also maybe should have been done in a more qualitative way.

In a translative aspect of viewing this commercial, it had some interesting solutions. I took away that some of the solutions were to try and get rid of paper completely and replace it with technology. It showed the husband trying to convert his wife over to the electronic forms of paper. I don’t think that is the best solution because everyone does not like technology and many may prefer to use the old school way. I can see how this commercial may be even offensive to some because of how much they see actual paper a better way to do things rather than technology. I know a lot of older people feel that they can barely use technology and feel a lot more comfortable using the hard paper forms of things. It even shows the father trying to convert the young child to technology. What a different world we live in now. The solution to this argument could have been better.

In conclusion, there are many opinions and factors that play into this argument. Is hard tangible paper better to use, or electronic version with our technology better to use is the fight between the older generation and the younger generation. Although there are many that are trying to keep paper around for as long as possible but the world is going in such a way that everything will be technology. It makes me as the question, “how long will paper last in today’s world?” With the help of the “Emma” comercial put out by Le Trefle, I have been able to pause the idea of this argument and look at how Le Trefle presented their argument. Within the commercial I examined the conjectural, definitional, qualitative, and translative ways. This helped me see the holes in the argument of the commercial and how the commercial could have made a bigger impact on me and maybe others watching this commercial as well. In the end this helped me decide that although tangible paper can be very useful and help with many things, I see that in the future everything will be technology ran. This makes me look forward to the future and to see how the world will change for the better. Will the world be better with or without paper? How will we all be effected?
